The Chicano/a and Latino/a Arts & Humanities minor is an interdisciplinary minor which provides a broad introduction to the histories and cultural artifacts produced by Spanish-speaking communities in the United States. Through a coordinated course of study drawing upon course offerings in Theatre, Ethnic Studies, Communication, History, Literature, and other departments, students will gain an understanding of this important segment of the U.S. population.
In addition to the curriculum at UCSD, opportunities for further study are available through the UC Education Abroad Programs in Mexico, Spain, and Latin America. Students may also take independent study units and tutorials with program faculty.
Students will have a minimum of two years or the equivalent of Spanish language instruction (Satisfactory completion of Lit/Spanish 2A,B,C or Lit/Span 2D will satisfy this requirement). Students may count one lower-division language course (4 units) towards the total unit requirement. Students will complete 28 total units of which at least 20 (5 courses) must be upper-division. One course must be drawn from those focused on pre-20th century materials. Students may take no more than three upper-division courses in any one department. The required distribution of the 5 upper-division courses may be selected from among the following courses. Students may petition to receive credit for courses not listed below.
